Take a Taste of Chesapeake City
When you think of Maryland cuisine, your first thought likely goes to the iconic blue crab. Crab cakes, Old Bay steamed crabs, soft-shell crabs, cream of crab soup, Maryland crab soup, crab imperial, crab dip. (Reminds us of a scene from the movie Forrest Gump!) While we're big fans of all things crab, you'll actually find a wide variety of regional specialties and fusion cuisine at extraordinary restaurants throughout Chesapeake City.
For a sampling of many flavors in one place, make plans to check out the annual Taste of Chesapeake City when you stay with us at the Inn at the Canal in October. The fourth annual event is slated for Saturday, October 8, from noon to 5 p.m. It will be held at the Volunteer Fire Company No. 1's north-side station at 215 Lock Street.
Taste of Chesapeake City is a great way to sample our canal city's mouth-watering food offerings. Come hungry and thirsty because there will be plenty of local food and beverage vendors serving up delicious eats, craft beers and wines. A few of the vendors in the lineup include wood-fired pizza creations from Bristow Live Fire, lagers and ales from 5th Company Brewing, and wine and seasonal hard cider from Broken Spoke Winery.
In addition to all of the delectable food, there will be local shopkeepers and artisans on hand with specialty goods and crafts. As you stroll among the vendors, enjoy live music from Red River, who will be playing your favorite country and oldies tunes all afternoon.
The best way to get to the Taste of Chesapeake City from the Inn at the Canal is by boat! Take a 5-7 minute ferry ride across the C&D Canal aboard the Chesapeake City Ferry. Running every 30 minutes, the ferry provides the most convenient and scenic transportation to the event.
Proceeds from Taste of Chesapeake City benefit the fire company, which not only responds to fire and rescue calls on land but also to emergencies on the C&D Canal via their fire/rescue boat.
