Summer at the Chateau Bu-De Winery & Vineyard
Searching for a winery to visit while visiting us in Chesapeake City? Look no farther than the Chateau Bu-De Winery and Vineyard, located a quick 10-minute drive from the Inn at the Canal. Set on 440 acres along the Bohemia River, Chateau Bu-De was built on historic land that once belonged to Augustine Herrman, a 17th-century Bohemian settler. The Chateau Bu-De Winery and Vineyard, overseen by winemaker Jacques van der Vyver, takes a sustainable approach to creating fine wines, combining old and new techniques in the process.
Most of Chateau Bu-De’s wines are created on-site from grapes grown in the vineyard, which stretches around the winery. The result is 15 different wines—from lemony Chardonnay to the Stagecoach Cabernet Sauvignon. All wines are priced between $22 and $90.
Chateau Bu-De is not only a place to buy wine, but a destination to savor the wine with good food, music and company. The winery is open Wednesday through Sunday for tastings, which guests can enjoy inside or outside on the patio. Private tastings in the Wine Library are available upon request. To accompany the tastings, Chateau Bu-De offers charcuterie boards, vegetables with dip, homemade jellies, cookies and more to satisfy the palates of their guests. Adding further to the ambiance of the winery is live music, provided during summer weekends and on select weekdays.
Be sure to check out Chateau Bu-De's special events calendar when you're planning your getaway to the Chesapeake Bay area. Those looking to celebrate Father’s Day on June 19 will find music and special wine deals throughout the weekend. Mark Independence Day with a blast, when Chateau Bu-De hosts a dazzling fireworks show beginning at dusk on July 2. Appealing to wine-loving runners, the winery is hosting a 5k event, Run the Vineyard, on July 17. Food, drinks and wine will be provided to those who register, and a luau show follows the race.
With its picturesque views of the Bohemia River, locally made wines and tailored events, the Chateau Bu-De Winery and Vineyard is a destination for those who want to appreciate the taste of Maryland’s finest wines in a stunning, relaxing setting.
